Nights Like These

Days like these really make me so happy to be back in my old hood! I've been blessed with the greatest friends & a fun-loving family. I had another evening filled with conversation, games, catfish, & some good tunes.
Papa Chim (AKA Dad) was balderdashed into listening to some new music. "Hey Chim, did you know the singer of Modey Lemon happens to be George Thorogood's nephew?" He fell for it & I was able to listen to recently introduced music...eh...most of it anyway. What can I say, I can be pretty darn good at Balderdash? Har har. We're off to get bluesy @ the Chicago Bluegrass + Blues festival. Béla Fleck and the Flecktones are headlining tonight! They've always been a favorite of mine. When I was about eight, I first fell in love with Victor Wooten's bass guitar version of Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy from the Nutcracker Suite- he played it on Bozo the Clown's show.
^_^ Happy Saturday! -MG

The Return of Old Man Winter (and introducing Mr. Freeze)

...The Freeze has frozen!
Mr. Freeze does not need an introduction.
I woke up abruptly this morning in response to some loud honking outside my frosted bedroom window. Looking outside, the first thing I noticed was a layer of white snow blanketing the road & grass. Then my focus quickly shifted towards a fun pair of fat grey squirrels.
Snow is usually appreciated around these parts until mid-January, then Old Man Winter's welcome begins to wear thin. I hope living in California for the last two years hasn't spoiled me so much that i find myself unable to endure this bitter cold Midwest winter again. (-_-)

Hwy 1

I'm sad to say today will be one of my last road adventures driving down beautiful Highway 1 (at least for a while anyhow). Highway 1, I will miss you! *Sniff.

Halloween's The Best

My little cousin Natalie happens to be quite a starlet. She is so adorable! While coloring I taught her a wholesome Halloween song from my elementary days since she was driving my Mom batty with a different version of Trick-or-Treat Smell My Feet:
Trick-or-treat smell my feet. Give me something good to eat. If you don't I don't care. I'll pull down your underwear.
(Mom didn't care for that last part. ^_^). video

Oh! And I finally got my costume together. This year- I'm excited to go as a rainbow. I found a rainbow dress, a white Marie Antoinette wig for perfect cloud hair, rainbow arm warmers, leggings, sky blue nail polish and a golden sun cape.
What are YOU going as for Halloween?

Saturday

Today I Squished the Setting Sun...

...with bare hands. Impressed?

Friday

It's Been A Minute...

I started dabbling around with acrylics again. See my colorful mess?
So far I like how the cartoon clown is turning out most.
I plan to paint a series of stereotypes, since those can be fun. I better be careful to steer clear of the touchy ones though. In each conversation bubble will be the character's stereotype. (An athlete will rattle on about sports, a clown will rap about kids, etc.) If you have suggestions, please send 'em!
(A favorite smile <3)

Premiere of Up

Since Hollywood Boulevard is such a lively locale for people watching, we usually venture out Sundays for afternoon strolls. Middays the tourist crowd easily outnumbers those Hollywood club rats :-). To our surprise Hollywood Boulevard happened to be blocked off for the world premiere of the much anticipated animated feature, Up. What an amazing set up! The boulevard was thoroughly decked out with hundreds of colorful balloons. Rather than rolling out the classic red carpet they instead used grassy, green astroturf. Up foam letters filled the sky, we even spotted a blimp in the distance with an Up ad. They really went all out. My brother, Aaron has been working very hard on this film.

We're all very proud & anxious to see it. In fact, after walking into this- I almost ran back to the apartment for a disguise to pass myself off as a press member & spent a couple hours dreaming up multiple schemes to sneak our way into the premiere. Rational thought shortly kicked in as Ula reminded me that we had tickets for the evening midnight show. So colorful & fun, the artwork & story is incredible, can't wait to see it!
